CitizenShift Presents Work for All Screening and Discussion on Racism in the Workplace
(TORONTO, March 11, 2008) - The National Film Board of Canada’s CitizenShift is proud to present the Toronto premiere of Work for All – a public screening of six short films about racism in the workplace on Tuesday, March 25 at 7:30 pm at the NFB Cinema in downtown Toronto at 150 John St. A panel discussion will follow the free screening. This event follows International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (March 21st).
The films include: Mohammed Belhaj’s Une femme de tête, Nadine Valcin’s Still Waiting for Justice, Chedly Belkhodja’s Hanging On, Linda Lee’s Screen Test, Sobaz Benjamin’s Making It, and Mila Aung-Thwin’s Voice Job. Through personal stories, the films pose questions and offer insight into the complex issues surrounding racism in the workplace. They examine the adverse effects of systemic racism and provide first-hand accounts from individuals who are directly involved in the fight to combat, subvert and eliminate workplace racism.
Panellists include:
- Michael McKinnon, whose personal story of the racism that he experienced as a corrections officer is featured in the film Still Waiting for Justice.
- Hamlin Grange, President and Co-Founder of DiversiPro Inc, a diversity training, coaching and consulting company.
- Tonya Lee Williams, actor, director, producer and founder of the Reel World Film Festival and Reel World Foundation, whose mandate is to recognize the excellence and achievement of emerging diversity in film, video and new media.
- Nadine Valcin, filmmaker, writer, producer and director. Nadine directed Work for All’s short film, Still Waiting for Justice.
- Moderator: Paul de Silva - acting executive director of INDICO, International Council for Diversity in Film and Television and one of Canada's leading advocates for the need for diverse representation in the film and television industry.
