Walk The Talk - In Development

Canada’s World is a three-year national citizens' dialogue that has been engaging Canadians in developing a new story for Canada in the world. Join us! Grab hold of what we’ve been talking about and put it into visible actions that can speak louder than words.

Canada’s World is in the final stages of a three-year national dialogue process that has been engaging Canadians in developing a new story for Canada in the world. In order for this new story to come alive, citizens need to understand and actively advance it within their own communities, through the media and through formal government channels. Key to advancing this story is finding innovative and effective ways to communicate it to diverse members of society.

This dossier presents an opportunity to translate the new vision for Canada's role in the world into creative messaging that can engage people in a variety of ways. Whether it’s a short documentary video, a rap song, an academic report or a link to a website for Canadian entrepreneurs that are leading by example in the world, this dossier is a space for people to grab hold of what we’ve been talking about and put it into visible actions that can speak louder than words.

A word cloud generated from the timeline exercise of the Canada's World national citizens' dialogue.

Timeline exercise (1931 to 2008)
National dialogue participants were presented with a timeline produced during previous dialogues. The timeline was included in the dialogue handbook and reproduced geographically as an 18 foot poster and posted on the wall. Participants were asked to make any additions to the timeline where they saw glaring gaps, and to reflect on trends and patterns in Canadian history.

Notes from the timeline exercise were entered into Wordle, an online tool for generating "beautiful word clouds" from text. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. This word cloud illustrates the words that were shared most frequently in the timeline exercise of the dialogue.
