Media for social change

A 19th century mountaineer is separated from his friends after weathering out a surprise ice storm on a treacherous pass.

This is an old time montage using images captured while hiking to the Stanley Glacier near the British Columbia border October 2009. The images were produced by shooting through custom filters created with transparent paintings during my visual arts residency at the Banff Centre in Alberta. These images are also intended to be enjoyed as transparencies overlaid on black and white prints. By manipulating the transparency- interference and diffraction create hypnotic moire patterns and refer back to the narrative of the "lost and confused" mountaineer.
