Focus and Turning Points: Giving a Voice to Youth Subscribe

Young people learn how to tell their stories of change and courage through film, music and poetry.

"I learned that there are some people who actually give a shit". Those are the words of one student who took a leap of faith and participated in one of the documentary projects in this dossier.

By turning the microphones and cameras over to young people, Productions Oracle have created Turning Points and Focus, two documentaries that tell the stories of disenfranchised young people and empower them to create music, poetry and film. Watch how the act of telling stories about life, change, courage and success can itself be a life-changing experience.

Gang violence is a growing problem in many Canadian communities. This piece, looks at the serious consequences of choosing the gang lifestyle. Action for Neighbourhood Change is an initiative funded by the Government of Canada and coordinated by United Way of Canada-Centraide in partnership with the Caledon Institute of Social Policy, Tamarack: An Institution for Community Engagement, the National Film Board of Canada, and the United Ways of Halifax, Greater Toronto, Thunder Bay, Regina and the Lower Mainland (Surrey).
