Out in Schools

Being queer in school is still a challenge.

The Out in Schools project encourages all students, especially queer students, to develop a cultural voice by sharing media and art that speaks to, and represents, their own identities.

Being queer in school is still a challenge.

34% of queer youth say they have been threatened with violence at school.

17% have been physically assaulted.

71% have seriously considered suicide while 46% claim to have actually attempted suicide.

Homophobia and bullying are serious issues.

The Out in Schools project encourages all students, especially queer students, to develop a cultural voice by sharing media and art that speaks to, and represents, their own identities..

Out in Schools is a Vancoouver initiative that is proud to work with Gay Straight Alliances and bring independent, queer film directly to high schools and uses film as a springboard for discussion on issues such as homophobia, bullying and safe & diverse schools.
