Meet the people involved in the fight to eliminate racism in the workplace.
What was once out in the open is now subtly hidden in the policies and practices of the workplace. CITIZENShift has teamed up with Human Resources Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) to explore the issue of racism at work. This dossier devoted entirely to issues surrounding racism in the workplace. Examine how direct and systemic racism adversely effect industry and economy. Meet players involved in the fight to combat, subvert, and eliminate workplace racism. Witness the journey from the making-of to the final cut of six provocative short films produced on the subject.
Update: After the huge success of this dossier (launched in 2006) and the series of videos created on the subject, we are happy to announce that a new series of films and a space for dialogue on the topic is currently in action!

Film documenting the experiences of Blacks who worked as sleeping-car
porters on Canada's railways from the 1900s - 1960s.
Porters were well-respected by their community. They had steady work and
provided for their families. Yet they faced harsh working conditions and
there had no opportunity for promotion to other railway jobs. Finally, in
1955, porter Lee Williams charged the railway companies and the porter's
union with discrimination under the Canada Fair Employment Act, and Blacks
were able to work in other areas.
