Young people learn how to tell their stories of change and courage through film, music and poetry.
"I learned that there are some people who actually give a shit". Those are the words of one student who took a leap of faith and participated in one of the documentary projects in this dossier.
By turning the microphones and cameras over to young people, Productions Oracle have created Turning Points and Focus, two documentaries that tell the stories of disenfranchised young people and empower them to create music, poetry and film. Watch how the act of telling stories about life, change, courage and success can itself be a life-changing experience.
For World AIDS Week 2010 and for the entire month of December, YAHAnet will be posting one image per day in its TABOO (Take Art, Be Open Often) Campaign that aims to create positive, healthy discussion and action around HIV & AIDS and associated gender and stigma issues.
The aim of the TABOO photo campaign is to encourage youth to openly share photos from the amazing projects out there and to openly talk with each other about how, as youth, we can incorporate new ideas into our current HIV & AIDS awareness efforts as well as help other youth start their own awareness initiatives. Whether we are negative or positive, we need to stand together and use positivity to eliminate negativity.
Participation is simple. ONE.Send us photos TWO. Talk about the photos THREE. Spread the word
Click the above link for more details.
Visit YAHAnet each day to see the daily image or follow YAHAnet on Twitter for a daily link.
Head over to YAHAnet and leave a comment on one (or several) of the 33 TABOO photos that you find inspiring!
Feel free to say how the photo reminds you of your own awareness work, how the activities portrayed can be incorporated into your own work or future projects, how it makes you want to get more involved, how it provides an effective/ineffective message, etc.
We look forward to an open discussion! Click on the image below and go break some taboos!
