Homeless Nation, the feature of this dossier, is a website with a vast outreach inititave that helps foster a national dialogue around the most serious social problem facing us today: homelessness. It provides a rare opportunity for homeless community members to voice their own concerns, to create their own media and to engage in dialogue with one another and with a broader general audience.
Find out more about how the site came to be and discover a wealth of complimentary media on the issue right here!
Don McTavish, Alitha Lus and Richard Boyce all share observations and information they have regarding the situation regarding homelessness in Victoria, British Columbia.
A 10-minute video about the overall situation of homeless people in Victoria, BC from the point of view of care providers. Does the 2010 olympics in Vancouver affect care for the homeless? Does the presence of the homeless affect Victoria's tourism, and does it even matter? Are there plans in place to help the homeless situation?
This was the result of one day of shooting and one day of editing - we would have liked the opportunity to explore the issue deeper, with a greater cross-section of the Victoria populace. Thank you to all those involved.

I have been coming down to the North Park neighborhood for over
eighteen months and it seems to be getting busier day and night with
homeless drug addicts in front of Social Services. I wish that something positive
could be done because my friend has already moved from her home in that area.
She feels unsafe because these folks are always walking around aimlessly on her
street... The chances of them going to rehab are slim and their quality of life must be
lacking. I feel some compassion but my friend has left her home. The taxes still need to
be paid by July 01/09. I really wish that the 2010 Games begin & end quickly. The North
Park neighborhood can only take so much of this homeless and drug activity... It would be
nice to see them all go back to the URBAN area they came from. Peace to all.
