'UNESCO's World Heritage Convention', was adopted by the General Conference of UNESCO in 1972, and is founded on the premise that certain places on Earth are of "outstanding universal value" and as such should form part of the common heritage of humankind. Click here to find out more!
There are over 851 sites on UNESCO's World Heritage List. Located all around the world, these sites are of exceptional value to humanity. They also help contribute to the sustainability of communities and ecosystems
Every year, the World Heritage Committee meets to review the state of preservation for each site and to review applications for new sites. During the summer of 2008, 30 young people from around the world assembled in Canada to observe the work of the committee, not only to learn more about World Heritage, but also to consider their role in helping to protect it.

Borobudur Temple is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It has a deep meaning for me personally as an archaeology student...and for all the people of the world because all World Heritage sites are built with an oustanding universal value beyond their current existence. Nobody owns the World Heritage sites, they belong to all of human kind in the world....but now, the 8th Century Buddhist Temple, Borobudur, suffers from many kinds of threats like unmanaged tourism and a lack of a sense of belonging from the Indonesian national people itself. Let's gather to protect and conserve all the Heritage in the world, not only World Heritage sites...because all of our heritage is not only our past, but also our FUTURE.....
This the reason why I'm here now in CANADA, united with youth from all over the world. We are here for the future of our heritage...let's make a CHANGE from TODAY!!!!!
