Focus and Turning Points: Giving a Voice to Youth

Young people learn how to tell their stories of change and courage through film, music and poetry.

"I learned that there are some people who actually give a shit". Those are the words of one student who took a leap of faith and participated in one of the documentary projects in this dossier.

By turning the microphones and cameras over to young people, Productions Oracle have created Turning Points and Focus, two documentaries that tell the stories of disenfranchised young people and empower them to create music, poetry and film. Watch how the act of telling stories about life, change, courage and success can itself be a life-changing experience.

Conflict is an unavoidable part of life. It comes in many forms that include personal confrontations, labour disputes and armed warfare.

Conflict resolution is a way to deal with confrontations before they escalate into violence. Central to all conflict resolution programs is the development of effective communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

The NFB's Show Peace films are excellent ways to spur the dialogue process.

Peace is a way of life, the

by Alex Fisher (=

Tue, 12/21/2010 - 14:21

Peace is a way of life, the way you speak, the way you think. Love everyone. If you were to hate someone and they died before you could make ammends than that would weigh on you. Love is my weapon, and i love you all. Im sixteen and have been to six placements for drugs and violence and i converted to pacifism and vegetarianism, because i want to love life, and i do with peace. I live strong now. And so happy because i found my inner self and i found my inner peace. So for that, I love you. , (=
