The blog to come will highlight the events, reflections and experiences acquired from this unique program which serves to cultivate an interest in the art of journalism.
From June 26-June 30, 2009
This summer, in partnership with the East Metro Youth Services, the Verse City Workshop at Ryerson University’s School of Journalism will present a five-day intensive multimedia journalism camp.
The Verse City Journalism Project at Ryerson University is designed to encourage youth from Toronto’s priority neighbourhoods to consider a career in journalism. Twenty-eight high school aged teens from seven of Toronto’s designated priority neighbourhoods will be selected to spend four days attending an intensive, rigorous multimedia course at the Ryerson School of Journalism. This summer, the workshop focuses on multimedia and backpack journalism.
At the Verse City Summer Camp, participants will develop their reporting and writing skills and they will learn to turn those stories into video and audio pieces. Students will shoot photos and create lively sideshows.
At the Verse City Journalism Camp, participants will:
- Experience life away from home by living in downtown Toronto in one of the RU dorms.
- Get expert, insider college and career advice to help pursue dreams.
- Create content for a multimedia website, VerseCity.com
