The day of the opening, and I’m just having my morning coffee, before heading out to the corner store, to get the papers. This is the moment of truth - what will the reviews say? Everything has to go click click click to pull off a successful release, and we’re going to need good reviews. I’m going to go get the papers now. Yikes.

The reviews are great! Yeah. Grade A (or five Stars) in the Province from David Spaner, 3.5 stars in the Sun from Katherine Monk, and excellent articles. Phew! David’s was the best review we’ve had yet. He called ScaredSacred ‘remarkably moving, strikingly beautiful and surprisingly hopeful. Ripper’s startling images of destruction and resiilience often arrive so unexpectedly that you’re kept on the edge of your seat. The film looks at disputes without rhetoric, providing testimonials that will break your heart. But nothing that happens here will break the human spirit. Anyone who sees this movie will be the better for it.”
It’s great to see the reviewers really getting the heart of the film. Now all we need is an audience . . .

here we go - launching ScaredSacred (www.scaredsacred.org) theatrically. It’s two days before the opening weekend. Last friday, we found out our original venue, the Park Cinema, had to close down, because of a fire next door. For the entire long weekend, we did not know where our opening would be. Tuesday morning we’ve confirmed that it will be at Tinsel town.
now we have to try and let everyone know. Cari Green, one of the producers, and I met each other at a local cinema, where we’d both gone not to see the film (the Constant Gardner, which I thought was great), but to see our trailer in action on the big screen. It was also great just to see the ScaredSacred marquee poster in the lobby. All silly stuff, but exciting. It’s a new world for documentary filmmakers, actually getting a shot a theatrical run. Anything could happen.
We’re working closely with Good Company, the people who did the grass roots for The Coporation (which I sound designed: www.thecorporation.com) and it’s been quite amazing to see what’s happened as the film starts to enter the global grass roots network. In the last few hours we’ve received screening invitiations from London, England; Cochabamba, Bolivia; and Rome, Italy for activist screenings. It would be great if the film becomes fully embrced as a tool of social transformation. This will all continue to build over the coming months, as we go through the different phases of release - theatrical, broadcast and DVD, with an international DVD house screening release.
All very exciting.
