Starting off the afternoon with Hugh McGuire. Have been interviewing public interest podcasters all day for an upcoming series of podcasts. Really looking forward to working on those.
Hugh is talking about LibriVox, and he got people all over the world to read public domain books and build a public domain audiobook library. More on Hugh later. I’ll be interviewing him later this afternoon.

It’s not eve lunch yet and things are already boiling. We had a brilliant presentation from Mitch Joel about branding and community. Branding and marketing used to feel like ugly words - conjuring up ideas of ’shilling’ and selling yourself or your product. But online, branding and community are one and the same. It’s about focusing on who you are and creating the strongest, most recognizable image of who you are, so that your community can find you. And they will.

Just arrived in sunny but chilly Toronto and revving up for Podcamp - the unofficial meeting place for Canadian podcasters.
So far, over 200 podcasters are registered - and I know at least a handful of them are doing exciting social issues related podcasts and I’ll be interviewing them for an upcoming CITIZENShift podcast.
Stay tuned for more Podcamp updates throughout the week-end!

Musician and activist, David Rovics, talks about using music as a tool for social change.
He plays a three songs in this episode:
* New Orleans
* Operation Iraqi Liberation
* After the Revolution.
Rovics is a Boston-based singer/songwriter. His music very fresh and new, yet grounded in the energy of such political songwriters as Woodie Guthrie and Pete Seger.

I’m just astounded by the quality and the currency of the issues that Redeye Radio in Vancouver is dealing with. Every week, they’re addressing important issues in a really engaging way.
In this episode, Aaron Kreider talks about the challenges facing Internet activism:
‘The main problem is that sites are trying to broadcast their message. It’s one way communication. Up until very recently it’s been the organization putting out its message, putting out its announcements on its email list and there’s been very little feedback and very little response from the membership and very little ability for the membership to actually access the website and put their own message on the website as opposed to the officers of the organization / the leadership of the organization puttting their message on.’
This is a problem we’re trying to solve at CITIZENShift every day.
