Connexions with Our World

Young filmmakers from the Shíshálh Nation (Sechelt) and the Nuxalk Nation (Bella Coola) meet in Vancouver during the DOXA Documentary Film Festival and take turns blogging about their intense experience as they forge new relationships, attend the festival AND create their own short documentaries in the time period of the festival itself: May 27-June 1st . This is a collaborative workshop co-produced by DOXA’s Connexions Youth Forum, OUR WORLD, and CITIZENShift. Filmmaking mentors provided by Capilano College and IIDF (The Indigenous Independent Digital Filmmaking Program at Capilano College).

FINISHED FILMS-update

In an effort to wrap things up, like a technical director likes to do - I wanted to post thumbnails of the finished pieces and information on how to screen them…

sha?shisha?lem class
sha?shisha?lem class by Manuela Salinas and Malcolm Paul

is a piece that uses live action and animation to talk about Language Class in Sechelt B.C. … so … it fits perfectly into the Language Lost dossier on CITIZENShift…check it out!

Everyone single one of the films will be posted on the Our World site shortly…so check back to see the rest!

————————————

I am enjoying other people’s films at the festival. This is my first festival.

Putting the paint on my sweater I find I am unhappy with the look of it, it looks home-made.
Jack uses drawing as a stop motion segment for his movie
I hope to make more of these kind of designs…with more of a pencil sketched look, but still professional end product.

It would be cool if my movie could start a business for hoodies with my design…how about for the Olympics??!!!

Day One of the Workshop

Everyone is really tired.

sooooo tired

No one wants to write.

They want to go back to the hotel eat a $5 chocolate bar from the hotel fridge, sleep, watch t.v. and wait for a creative vision.

They all promise to come tomorrow on time or they will buy Meghna (DOXA youth coordinator) many expensive cups of coffee.

They will also bring story ideas….

Signing off until tomorrow

Lisa (Tech Coordinator)
