The Media Democracy Day Fair took place on Friday evening and was met with great success. One of the most interesting and inspiring aspects of the fair was the variety of participants it brought out. Citizen journalism giant NowPublic to revolutionary recycling Free Geek to Victoria Street Newz to independent online acts like the Vancouver Observer, to name just a few, mingled, networked and shared ideas on why independent media is important and how to make it thrive.
CitizenShift, like the other media-related tables, received a lot of attention from the constant crowd that was interested in making connections and building a community of writers, editors, distributors, and concerned citizens. The fair was lucky to have the Union for Democratic Communication conference happening at the same time, which brought about media scholars, creators and consumers from all over the globe.

Starting November 1st through November 11th, The UJA Federation of Greater Toronto will be supporting the 27th annual Holocaust Education Week with the Holocaust Centre of Toronto located at 4600 Bathurst Street (4th Floor). Although the Holocaust of the Second World War ended in 1945, the aftermath can still be felt today. This is why The Holocaust Centre feels it is important to preserve this memory in order to prevent another one from happening. The Centre holds lectures, conferences and many other programs to honour those that were lost. Join the survivors and their decendants in their retelling of the tragedy that swept over Europe.

It may be expected. It may even be downright obvious. Nevertheless, it must be announced that CitizenShift now has our very own group on Facebook.
It actually happened quite some time ago, but given that we’ve been totally preoccupied by the development of our new website and several film festivals, we’ve neglected to let you know. Fortunately for us a couple hundred people have already found us there, and the good news for you is that it’s not too late to join them. Mosey on over to Facebook, join our group, and get in on the conversation.
