Charge!

Charge! is a blog by a small group of film makers, mechanics and environmental activists that have come together to build an electric car and take it on a cross-Canada road trip in the summer of 2009. The challenge (aside from making a car that stay in one piece between coasts) will be recharging the car using only renewable energy sources that we will discover along the way. This will make the trip nearly zero impact and connect us and our communities with some of the most creative green-minds Canada has to offer.

I’m torn…it’s ExxonMobil, the most environmentally destructive oil company in the world!

This is very cool. The first all-electric car sharing coop. This is the future! Why does anyone need to own a car if we can establish networks like this? But as my title eluded, ExxonMobil a partner in this venture. I guess they see the writing on the wall.

BALTIMORE — The nation’s first all- electric car-sharing program debuted here Tuesday, with manufacturer Electrovaya hoping urban residents seeking to go green and curious tourists will take the concept for a spin.

Ten Maya 300s will be available starting today through the new car-sharing website Altcar.org. A two-hour trip costs $29. The car gets its juice from a regular 110-volt outlet. Electrovaya’s battery relies on Exxon Mobil battery technology that allows for the units to operate at higher temperatures with a reduced risk of meltdown. The Associated Press

At Long Last

Hello All

Well, we have waited a long time for this moment and I am pleased to be the one to finally release, to you, our demo.

Unfortunately for you I am a bit of a Luddite. If someone more technically savvy, say Katie, was to have posted this blog I am sure the video would be embedded, and perhaps tomorrow I can get her to show me how to do that. For now however, a simple, old fashioned link will have to suffice.

So without any further ado, here is our demo

We hope you enjoy it and offer your feedback.

I have to take the opportunity now to thank everyone who made that weekend of filming work and offer more and more praise to Chad and Thomas for turning that footage into this sweet demo.

First Solar Passes $1 Per Watt Industry Milestone

Company Cuts Manufacturing Cost to 98 Cents Per Watt in Fourth Quarter

First Solar

First Solar, Inc. announced it reduced its manufacturing cost for solar modules in the fourth quarter to 98 cents per watt, breaking the $1 per watt price barrier.

This seems quite significant for the solar industry, but I am curious about the quality of units that are this inexpensive. I’m curious where they’re manufactured. The article thanks the German government for its assistance, so I suppose with enough incentives this can be accomplished anywhere!

Renewed Energy

We had an idea the other day.

Our idea was to start passing on all the interesting articles and videos we view in our daily search for green news. This shareing will both pass on information and help us to meet our weekly Blogging goals. As you can see Katie is leading the charge, so to speak.

Likely this is the type of idea we were inteded to have a few months ago when we started our relationship with Citizenshift but hey, we are all of us brand new to blogging.

So, as a little treat I have for you a cartoon I happened upon in a fish and chip joint. I saved it from a greasy demise.

I think that Chad is going to be the new master of Blogging when we start adding articles and videos, he is always sending us little gems. That is why I don’t feel at all guilty about showing you this video he showed me. I love this guy.

Why wouldn’t Bush end his reing of terror like this? Just par for the course. In case you wanted to know how this story ended read this. Nice to see that we win some of them.

Thanks everyone. I hope you enjoy the info.
